Your Winter Arc, in 12 weeks
A Winter Arc is the stretch from October 1 to December 31 that you use to get ahead of the new year instead of waiting for January. Plan it like any 12-week goal: up to three goals, a milestone for each week, a few actions a day, and a limit on the feed.
Started late? The countdown below shows what is left, and a full 12 weeks from today is still on the table.

How much of the Winter Arc is left?
Counted from your phone’s date, today included. A 12-week cycle started today runs for 84 days.
days left
- 10 weeks and 4 days until December 31
- Day 19 of 92 since October 1
- 12 weeks from today ends on January 10, 2027
- As of October 19, 2026
What is a Winter Arc?
A self-improvement trend from TikTok: you treat the last three months of the year as the part of the story where the character changes. You start in autumn, so you reach January already moving.
The usual window is October 1 to New Year’s Day (Under Armour). The challenge goes back to at least late 2022 and became a meme in 2024 (Know Your Meme).
Three months is long enough to see a change and short enough to keep in view, which is why it maps well onto a 12-week plan.
What are the Winter Arc rules?
There are no official ones. The lists people post look alike: wake up at the same time, train, read, eat better, sleep on time, scroll less. Keep three, not ten:
- One for your body. “Run 5 km without stopping by December 31.”
- One for your mind or work. “Finish the course”, “ship the side project”.
- One habit to protect the other two. Usually less of the feed in the evening.
Each rule needs a finish line you could show someone. “Get fit” isn’t one.
How do you plan a Winter Arc?
- Pick up to three goals and write how each looks on December 31.
- Cut each one into weekly milestones, one result per week. The free 12-week planner writes the first draft.
- Plan only this week’s actions, each with a day, small enough for a bad day.
- Give the feed a daily allowance: on iPhone or on Android.
- Review every week, on the same day, in about ten minutes.
The long version, with examples: break a big goal into weeks and actions.
The Winter Arc template
Copy it into your notes and fill it in tonight. Week 1 is the only week you plan in detail.
Why do Winter Arcs fall off?
Usually not for lack of motivation. The arc runs into one of three walls:
- Ten rules on day one. The first busy day breaks four of them, and the rest stop feeling worth it. Three goals leave room for a bad week.
- All or nothing. A missed run turns into a missed week. Write a smallest version for every action, the one you do on a bad day.
- The evenings go to the feed. A plan made at 8 am loses to a phone at 9 pm. Decide the feed’s minutes in the morning, when you are on your side.
Why 12Focus fits a Winter Arc
12Focus was built around the same shape: a 12-week cycle with a beginning and an end.
- Day 1 of 84 to day 84. Every day you finish your plan fills a square on the 12-week grid, so the arc is something you can see, not a feeling.
- Up to three goals, each turned into a few actions for this week.
- The feed gets a daily allowance on iPhone and Android. Each action you finish adds minutes back.
- A weekly review shows what moved and what didn’t, and you can share your week with a partner you choose.
- A photo of the run, if you want proof for yourself.
Winter Arc, answered
When does the Winter Arc start?
Most people start on October 1 and treat December 31 as the finish. Nothing stops you from starting later: the countdown shows how many days are left.
How long is a Winter Arc?
October 1 to December 31 is 92 days, a little over 13 weeks. Planned as a 12-week cycle, it is 84 days.
Is it too late to start a Winter Arc?
No. Plan the weeks that are left, or run a full 12 weeks from today; the countdown shows the date it ends. What counts is that each week has its milestone and its actions.
What are the Winter Arc rules?
There are no official rules. People usually pick a few daily habits, such as training, reading, sleeping on time and less scrolling, and keep them until the end of the year. Three goals you keep beat ten rules you drop.
What should I do if I miss a day?
Do the smallest version of the next action the next day, and look at what got in the way at your weekly review. One missed day only ends the arc if you let it.
Is there an app for a Winter Arc?
12Focus is built around 12-week cycles: up to three goals, weekly actions, a weekly review, and a daily allowance for the apps you choose to limit on iPhone and Android.
Start the arc today
12Focus holds up to three goals for 12 weeks, fills a square for every day you finish your plan, and gives the feed a daily allowance that finished actions add to.
